Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning is a lifelong process, and as a teacher, I strive to continue learning alongside my students. I see teaching as a reciprocal journey; as much as I impart knowledge and skills, I also grow through the insights students share. My approach to learning is collaborative, interactive, and designed to inspire each student’s curiosity and engagement.
In the classroom, my primary goal is to equip students with the essential skills they need for success in their artistic careers, guiding them as they refine and build on those foundations. I aim to create a dynamic and supportive environment where students are provided with the necessary tools, instructed in their use, and encouraged to experiment to discover their preferred personal methods. Recognizing the diversity of learning styles, I am available to speak with students one-on-one, fostering a space where they feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance outside of group settings.
I also work to tailor lessons to align with students’ interests within the fields I teach. While I emphasize fundamental skills, I design lessons to clarify complex concepts and integrate student feedback as they progress through each unit. I’ve found that collaborating with students to incorporate their perspectives not only deepens their investment in their education but also opens them to exploring new ideas. This approach sustains engagement and ensures clarity in addressing challenging subjects.
A classroom, to me, is a collaborative environment where every student should have the opportunity to have their voice heard and respected. I view critique as a vital part of artistic development, essential for growth, and I foster an atmosphere where students feel confident both giving and receiving constructive feedback. My goal is to create a space that encourages each student to improve, refine, and extend their work, embracing mistakes as natural, valuable steps in the learning process and as opportunities for growth.
